Car Trunk Escape Game: In a Pitch-Dark Trunk, Can You Get Out?
▶ PLAY FREE NOWNo download · Phone or PC · 3–5 minutes per run · 10 languages“I Woke Up in a Trunk” is a free, choice-based car trunk escape game you play right in your browser. After a Friday team dinner in Seongsu, you hand your car key to a man who asked, “Did you call a driver?” You wake up in a dark, cramped trunk, wrists bound with a zip tie, while the car races down a highway. The two criminals want your cards and PIN.
The criminals, vehicles and characters are all fictional, and the correct choices follow real safety material (NHTSA’s FMVSS 401, vehicle-maker safety guidance, and the Korean National Police Agency’s 112 text and “knock-knock” reporting guidance). This is the first game of the new Escape series in the Survival series.

How a run works
The clock at the top of the screen only stops while you decide (⏱ running / ⏸ paused).
- Highway: feel around for items, text 112 from the work phone in your jacket, and work on the zip tie.
- Rest-stop ATM stop: footsteps come toward the trunk. Play dead, or pull the lever and bolt? Whether people are around changes the answer.
- Back roads and mountain road: the few seconds when the car stops at a red light, headlights behind you, a speeding downhill.
- Reservoir clearing: the criminals smoke 30 m away. Run now, or wait?
- The final moment: the clues you left change the ending.
Hold breath · Search · Suspicion gauge · Clues
- Hold breath: when footsteps get close, press and hold the button (or Space bar). Release when the needle is in the green zone — let go too early and you are caught, hold to the end and you gasp.
- Search and combine: feel under the lid, beneath the floor carpet and near the tail light to find a lever, a wrench and a pen clip, then pick the zip tie lock with a thin pin.
- Suspicion gauge: noise, light and movement build up until the criminal comes to check. The noise of the moving car covers a little of your sound.
- Clues: a 112 text, a shared location, a hand waved through the tail light hole and a dropped employee ID all bring the police faster.

- Look for the glow-in-the-dark emergency release near the latch inside the trunk (required on US passenger cars since the 2002 model year; some cars don’t have one).
- Set your phone to silent and report by text to 112 (car model, plate, direction, number of criminals). If you can’t speak, call 112 and press buttons: the “knock-knock” report.
- Never jump out of a moving car. Escape when the car has stopped, in a bright place with people, and run while shouting.
- Don’t fight the criminals recklessly — your life matters more than money.
- The lock part of a zip tie is weak. Leave clues (location, objects).

3–5 minutes. Whether the car has a release lever and whether the rest stop has people changes every run, so the right answer differs each time you replay.
How does holding your breath work?
Press and hold the button (Space bar on PC) and release when the needle enters the green zone. Release before the footsteps fade and you are caught.
Does it cover a real case?
No. The criminals, vehicles and characters are all fictional. The correct answers follow public safety material.
Are there gory scenes?
There is no blood or graphic violence. Dangerous moments are shown only with screen shake and short lines of text.
How many survive just by guessing?
In bot tests, about 88% of players who guess fail to get out. If you know the tips, everyone gets out.
