You are a young emigrant in a third-class cabin on the Titanic's maiden voyage when the ship scrapes an iceberg. The ship sinks at 2:20 am. You have the time in between to get dressed, put on a lifebelt, find a way up past a closed gate, decide whether to step into a half-empty lifeboat, and, if it comes to that, survive water at about -2°C until a boat or the rescue ship reaches you.

How the night unfolds

The run follows the real timeline of the 1912 British and US inquiries: the collision at 11:40 pm, the order to uncover the boats shortly after midnight, the first lifeboat lowered around 12:45 am with fewer than 30 people in 65 seats, distress rockets, the last collapsible boats around 2:05 am, the sinking at 2:20 am, and the rescue ship Carpathia picking up the first boat at about 4:10 am. Each choice is timed, so hesitating costs you minutes you cannot get back. A run takes about 5 minutes.

Myth or fact: the core of the Era series

In 1912, many people believed the ship could not sink, that a huge liner was safer than a small wooden boat, that you should wait below until a steward called you, that a sip of whisky would warm you, and that you could swim to a boat in freezing water. In this Titanic simulator, every key choice is either what people believed then (myth) or what we know now (fact). The facts keep you alive, but insisting on them too loudly in front of frightened passengers makes you look like a troublemaker. At the end, the result screen shows what people believed and what is actually true.

Two body-action moments

Some moments are played with your hands, not buttons. In the tilting corridor you drag a needle to keep your balance as the bow goes down, and if you end up in the water you tap to the beat to control your breathing during cold water shock, the first minute that kills most people who fall into cold water.

Characters: same faces, another era

The familiar faces of the Survival series appear as people of 1912: Chief Steward Briggs, who keeps saying "rules are rules" at the third-class gate; Agnes, a shy young woman traveling alone with a letter to her mother; Martha, a village midwife who ties other people's lifebelts; and Peter, a young steward who knows the crew ladders. The villain, Mr. Crane, is a fictional card sharp selling fake "lifeboat priority" slips. The captain and officers appear only by rank. No real passenger or victim is named.

Story mode, random mode and perks

In Story mode the order to uncover the boats comes at the same moment every time. In Random mode your cabin (bow or stern), the side of the boat deck you reach, when the gate opens and when a returning boat finds you change every run. Your perk is a 1912 trade: dock porter, rivet worker, fisherman, nurse's aide, postman and more.

12 hidden missions

Three missions are secretly picked each run and revealed at the end, such as Lifebelt first, Dress warm, The first boats, Another way up, Out of the water, A boat that goes back and No whisky, thanks.

10 tips to survive the Titanic (in the game and in real life)

  1. Trust the signs, not the reassurance. A stopped engine and a long scraping shudder mean get ready.
  2. Dress warm in layers before you leave the cabin.
  3. Put the life jacket on early and tie it tight.
  4. Leave the luggage. It blocks stairs and slows you down.
  5. Do not wait at a blocked stair. Look for another way up.
  6. Take a seat in the first boats. The early boats left half empty.
  7. If the rules on one side say no, check the other side.
  8. If you must enter the water, go from the lowest point, feet first, holding the jacket down.
  9. In cold water, breathe first, then get your body out of the water onto wreckage or an upturned boat.
  10. No alcohol for warmth. Huddle together, and rewarm slowly with blankets.

What really happened that night

The Titanic struck an iceberg at about 11:40 pm on April 14, 1912, and sank at 2:20 am on April 15, two hours and forty minutes later. According to the British inquiry, 711 of the 2,201 people on board survived, and about 1,500 died. Her 20 lifeboats had room for 1,178 people, but only about 700 places were filled. Survival was 62% in first class, 41% in second class, 25% in third class and 24% among the crew. The water was about -2°C. The Carpathia picked up the survivors from about 4:10 am. After the disaster, the 1914 International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) required lifeboat space for everyone on board and a round-the-clock radio watch.

FAQ

Is the Titanic game free?

Yes. It is a free browser game with no payments, no ads and no install. It works on phones, tablets and PCs.

Is it based on the real Titanic?

The ship, dates, times and general facts follow the 1912 British and US inquiries and published survivor statistics. The player and all named characters are fictional, and no real passenger or victim is named.

How long does a run take?

About 5 minutes. The night is compressed: choices are timed, and the hours in the boats pass quickly.

Can I survive by staying on the ship?

Rarely. The ship sank at 2:20 am, and most people who ended up in the -2°C water died within minutes to an hour. The safest choice in the game, as it was that night, is a seat in a lifeboat as early as possible.

Why did third class have a lower survival rate?

The British inquiry pointed to cabins at the far ends of the ship, a long way from the boat deck, and to passengers reluctant to leave the ship or their luggage. The game shows this calmly, without blaming anyone.

Is it scary or violent?

There is tension, timed choices and a few jump-scare moments, but no blood, no bodies and no graphic scenes. It is made for teens and adults.

What is the Era series?

A series of history survival games where you face a famous disaster of the past and must choose between what people believed then and what we know now: the Black Death, a medieval siege, Pompeii, the Titanic and the Great Fire of London.

Do I need to know about ships?

No. Every right answer is explained on the result screen with its source.
